Evaluation for performance in this class is as follows:

5% - Exercise 1

20% - Project 1 (cardboard)

25% - Project 2 (wood)

25% - Project 3 (plaster)

10% - Community participation

5% - Reading responses and sketchbook

5% - Artist presentation

5% - Attendance

Projects

Your evaluation for each of the projects will be break down like this:

30% - Originality / creativity /inventiveness

30% - adherence to project parameters

40% - execution of the final project, quality of the work and the manner of display

Community participation

I expect each student to contribute to a successful community. This includes participating in critique discussions, giving feedback to your peers when called on to do so during in progress conversations and contributing to one another's success by removing materials that are blocking space, promptly removing completed projects, being considerate of other students needs with tools and materials.

Critique discussion contribution and in progress discussion contributions are most heavily weighted here but good citizenship is also considered in this evaluation.

Reading responses / sketchbook

I will ask you to give a 2 paragraph to 1 page response to readings that I give out at the beginning of each unit. Refer to the schedule to find due dates for these responses. They can be emailed, printed out or hand written. They are to be turned in at the beginning of class on their due date. They will loose 10%/day late after their due date.

The responses can be a summary of what you have read, they can be further questions you would like to ask about the reading material, they can be your view on the readings or a response to the writing that is critical. We will discuss the expectations for these more in class.

You are also asked to keep a sketchbook. The sketchbook should chronicle your investigations and give insight into how and why you are constructing the work for this course.

This can be an actual book, it can be a webpage, it can be a series of photographs available through the web, DIY style videos on the web or whatever is your most comfortable way of working. However, it must be something that I can access and review as necessary to see how you are forming ideas and a successful sketchbook will explain your investigations through each unit.

Artist presentation

Each of you will give a 5 - 10 minute artist presentation at some point throughout the semester. I've broken it up into 4 days that we will do artist presentations. This will make sure that we are looking at and being exposed to artists regularly throughout the semester. Students will be asked to sign up for their time slot after the 1st week of class. You are to choose an artist that interests you and is related to your practice, the material that we are using at the time or who has a similar methodology to your own.

Attendance

Refer to the course summary for the attendance policy.
